His Eminence Archbishop Makarios


His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia is also the President of St. Basil’s Homes.

He is a graduate of the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Athens and of the Theological School of the University of Athens. He completed post-graduate studies at the Universities of Boston, (Master of Sacred Theology), Harvard, (Master of Arts), and Monash, (Master of Bioethics), and a PhD at the Medical School of the University of Crete. His thesis was “Cloning: Social, Ethical and Theological Components”.

He became a monk and Deacon in 1993, a Presbyter in 1997 and an Archimandrite in 1998 and Bishop in 2015.He is President of the Synodal Committee for Bioethics of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

He is a member of many scientific and ecclesiastical organizations and has published articles, studies and books.

On 9th May 2019, he was elected Archbishop of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.

Dr Theo Penklis

Vice Chairman

Theo Penklis was born on January 30, 1958.

He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Sydney and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of NSW.

He is a general practitioner and principal doctor at Rose Bay Family Medical Centre.

He is an Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame, Australia.

He is Chairman of St Andrew’s Brotherhood and member of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Council.

He has been a member of the St Basil’s Charity since March 2006 and a member of the Board of Directors since 2008.

Mr Gregory Gav


Born 28 May 1959 in Greece.

Has been a member of the Charity since 10 July 2001

Member of the Board of Directors since 18 December 2001.

Greg is also a director for the Bank of Sydney.

Mr Kos Dimitriou


Chartered Tax Adviser – The Tax Institute, 2004 – 2006 Diploma of Legal Practice (Tax) - Sydney University.

2002: Admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 4 October 2002.Graduated from B Comm (Acctg) / B.Laws at UWS.

Kos is a tax lawyer with over 17 years’ experience in taxation, holding senior roles in the profession and commerce.
Kos also advises the Government and ATO on tax policy and tax law design

Mr Nikolas Hatzistergos


Nikolas Hatzistergos is Chairman of William Buck, Chartered Accountants & Advisors.
He is regularly retained as an accounting and business advisor for a great number of medium and large businesses involved in the manufacturing and services sectors
He is also frequent¬ly present papers on accounting and business management issues for many professional bodies and have authored a number of technical papers that have been published both in Australia and overseas.

Maria Kokkinakos is Director, Strategic Health Sourcing for the Sydney Local Health District.

Previous roles have included workforce planning, food and nutrition consulting to the private and public sector, Honorary Lecturer at the University of Sydney and various management roles within the health sector since 1989. Her qualifications include:

BSc.,DipNutrDiet.(University of Sydney), M. Mgt (UTS), Dip. Project Mgt.,GAICD.

She is an Associate Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service

Management and Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Maria has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2012.

Mr Harry Exikanas


Born 10 June 1951 in Sydney, Australia.

Experience in a wide range of professional services associated with the property industry.

Has been a member of the Charity since 26 March 2003 and a member of the Board of Directors since 27 October 2006.
