Our staff are our treasure. Without them, we cannot pride ourselves in the care and in the services that we offer. We do our very best to continually educate our employees because we believe that someone who is learning is someone who is not sitting still. Staff who are learning are growing, they are dynamic and they are going places. These are the sort of people we want looking after you.
Most of our staff are trained in aged care, or have a certificate, diploma or university degree in relevant areas of study.
St Basils is a Registered Training Organisation RTO, and we can enrol staff in our courses for a large number of qualifications in clinical care, customer service, community care and other areas.
When we are recruiting, the first thing we look at is personality and heart. We want employees who are genuinely interested in engaging with the people they look after. We want people who can share happiness, show understanding, be patient and gentle.
At the same time, we want our residents to care for our staff , to love them and appreciate them for the things they do and the difference they can bring to the life of each and every resident and client.
Sometimes we want our staff to be the comedians or the dancers and inspire joy and laughter. Other times our employees need to be empathetic for the grieving family. Sometimes they have to work really hard just to add energy to your day while at other times they are honoured to sit with you, in the corner of the garden in the sunshine, to hear a story from your beautiful life.
It is these same staff who you may need to trust to help with feeding, toileting, showering and dressing you with care and dignity. And it is the same staff who will shed a tear and grieve the day you leave.
At St. Basil’s we know it is the people who make it a home. You, your family, our staff, the volunteers and your visitors. Altogether we make it a home. We love each other and we care for each other, we work with each other and together we make it work.
