St Basil’s is an activity of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia. One of the reasons families and individuals choose St Basil’s is because of the familiar pastoral care that is provided both in group settings and individually.
Pastoral care can encompass activities such as the regular church services, providing emotional and spiritual support and comfort during difficult times and administering the sacraments such as Holy Communion. Pastoral care is also as simple a visit or a discussion with a minister of religion or another pastoral carer.
At St Basil’s we are very fortunate and grateful that we have the following special people who provide this pastoral care and support.
Rev. Fr. Nicholas Stavropoulos, St Basil’s Chief Executive Officer, St. Basil’s Homes
Very Rev. Fr. John Kapetas, St Basil’s founder and first Chief Executive Officer
Very Rev. Fr. Militiades Chryssavgis, at St. Basil’s Randwick
Rev. Fr. Stavros Agoroudis, at St. Basil’s Lakemba
Very Rev. Fr. Constantine Varipatis, at St. Basil’s Miranda
Very Rev. Fr. Sophronios Konidaris, at St. Basil’s Kogarah
Very Rev. Fr. Prochoros Anastasiades, at St. Basil’s Kogarah
Very Rev. Fr. Petros Kipouros at St. Basil’s Canberra
We are also very grateful for the weekly visits to Lakemba for six months of the year from the Rev. Dr Alan Galt and the theological college students from St Andrews Theological College (Greek Orthodox). This is part of an agreement between the College and St. Basil’s, where each year the students complete the practical component of pastoral subject at St. Basil’s. This is mutually beneficial arrangement where the students learn to interact with elderly and our residents enjoy the opportunity to create new relationship and friends. Reverend Alan Galt supervises the students who minister to the needs of residents and families.
Furthermore, every effort is made to have regular pastoral visits and activities from other denominations.
